What is Cherbeek Bay? (Part 1)

Cherbeek Bay is an imaginary town.

If it were real, it would be located in northern California, closer to Oregon than San Francisco.

If it were real, it would have about 500 residents.

But it's just an imaginary town.

What is Cherbeek Bay? (Part 2)

Cherbeek Bay is a group writing project.

The idea came after reading too many blogs about people's personal lives and becoming bored with it all. I didn't want to create yet another blog where I write about what I ate for breakfast or what errands I ran today. Then it hit me -- why not write blogs about imaginary people instead?

The first stab at the concept was Chyubaer. It helped solidify in my mind what I wanted to accomplish.

Then I wanted to be more ambitious and asked for volunteer writers among my friends. Four brave souls signed up. The five of us have now embarked on a group writing exercise where we will each tell part of the tale of Cherbeek Bay.

The Characters

Blogs are available for the following characters:

CAL HANSEN

Sheriff Calvin "Cal" Hanson, is a Cherbeek Bay native. He attended the police academy in Portland Oregon, where he worked on the police force after graduation. Cal moved back to Cherbeek Bay when his father fell ill. His father eventually passed away, but his mother still lives in town.

Cherbeek Bay's Sheriff department includes Cal and a part time deputy, Thomas Bookman. Cal's wife of 2 years, Marie, occasionally helps with administrative duties.

Cal is often very focused, to the point of appearing too serious. He takes his job very seriously, and while he finds different challenges after working for a major metropolitan police force, hopes to apply some of what he learned to Cherbeek Bay. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking and fishing. He and his wife have been trying to start a family.

DAVID MILLER

Once a happy member of the Cherbeek Bay community, David Miller's life has been filled with grief since the recent death of his daughter, Madeleine, to illness. Having also lost his wife the previous year, David now spends most of his time alone. During the day, he works at Ferguson Fabrics and Apparel, but he shuns the company of others after work, despite the efforts of his friends.

An avid hiker and swimmer, David could often be found hiking through the mountains or swimming in Lake Cherbeek in this spare time. He also used to sing in the church choir, but his attendance at service has slipped since the death of his daughter.

David was born and raised in Cherbeek Bay. He was an average student with a penchant for practical jokes in his youth. Like many people in town, David grew up going to school with his wife-to-be, Susan, and married her shortly after graduation. Both David and Susan started working at Ferguson Fabrics and Apparel immediately afterwards, until Susan stopped working to have their daughter.

DANA ROBERTSON

GERONIMO YOUNG

Pastor Geronimo Young is a relative newcomer to Cherbeek Bay. A man in his mid-30s, he was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He was a pastor in Portland for seven years before taking a leave of absence. Geronimo did odd jobs and traveled for awhile before eventually settling in Cherbeek Bay, where he has lived for the past three years.

A son of a pastor, Geronimo is a man of God and comes from a deeply religious family.
